New to the 'board' board

Postby Snow Duck on Wed Feb 10, 2010 12:45 pm

Howdy! Good to be a member of the local snowboarding forum. Thanks Kevin and all who are keeping this place going. I've been living up in the Sweet Grass Hills now for a few years (living and working on a cattle ranch), but haven't been to any resorts in our state as of yet. The hills and coulees here are fun to dink around on, but I long for the ease and relaxation of a chair-lift, saving all that energy for riding down long runs and goofing in the parks. While Whitefish is just a train-ride away, I'd love to check out places like Showdown and smaller ones like Great Divide or even Teton--if that place is still in operation.

I lived in Eastern Washington for years and learned to board back in 1989 up at Mt. Spokane, then on to 49 Degrees North (still my fave), Schweitzer, Silver Mt. and Lookout Pass. Still love/obsessed with the activity and will do it 'til my last breath. Hope to hit the Montana circuit and maybe shred with some folks on this board. Peace and powder forever, fellow snow-fiends!

Great to have you here... things have been a little quiet this season, maybe the not-so-great snow conditions have something to do with that? Either way, Let me know what you think of the MT resorts, I never really made it to the 'eastern' resorts either.

I will for sure! This season I'm hoping to get to Great Divide and in April around Spring Break time, 49 Degrees North in Chewelah, WA has a free ski week that I'd love to take advantage of. Spring snowboarding is the best! :D I'd love to keep the SBMT crew updated on any activities, and forums are a lot of fun to get involved with, especially something as cool as 'boarding. I'm glad there's still some activity on the board, and hopefully more to come.

Right now there's some flakes coming down, and even though it can be a pain in the butt when we get a dump, I'm always keeping my fingers crossed for a healthy dose of snow. I have a friend coming out to visit in a week or so with his park skis and am praying to the Powers That Be that we'll still have the cool drifts around before they melt away. Up in the hills are some long and steep drifts, so those would be fun to hike up to and build some kickers.

Have fun in Utah, Kevin! I hope you have fun with those rail grinds! Peace and snow snow snow :snowboarder:

Hehe yeah I hate that stress when someone's about to come visit you and you want there to be perfect conditions for them so they can go back home and talk about how awesome it was :) Maybe I'll need to send out an email to the other members telling them to get their butts over here again! Montanans seem to be pretty asocial on the internet, have you noticed that?

Yeah, the more recent posts on here have been 2008!! We'll have to change that. You might have seen that I'll reply on almost anything here, but that's because it's snowboarding after all :D I love this activity almost more than eating. Do you still have a hard time getting to sleep when you're about to go out the next day to ride? That feeling will never die! Even after a huge drinking binge the night before my first time at Red Mt. and a really long session praying to the Porcelain God :wasted: I got right up, felt totally energized, and had one of the craziest days of all time.

Well, my request for more snow was granted. There's about 6" of new powder :snow: :snow: . Now I just gotta get my bud to come out... :banghead:

Thanks for still being active on the SBMT forum. I'm looking forward to seeing the New and Improved version =D) Is that where the final Logo decision will be shown (totally curious and hope it's one of Greg's designs, though they are all pretty cool looking and well made). Greg's has a lasting, simple and straightforward look to them. I especially like the "loopy" design-very original. I am a sucker for animal designs, so Whitney's has a special place in my heart :D Good job to all who submitted their work. As an artist, I know what we go through and having to pour your energy and soul into something as personal as art can be fun and crazy at the same time. *hand claps to all*

Yeah Gregg won the competition! We thought his design was of another level, but everyone put in a really good effort!

As for the night before riding... I usually go home early or not go out at all so I can be in top shape for the next day. I'm pretty bad with shaking off a long night of drinking

So cool! I'm very happy Gregg won! Looking forward to the next SBMT upgrade. I hope more people are active on it, too. Thanks for keeping in contact, Kevin. BTW, my real name's Chad and I hope to someday meet some fellow boarders from this site on the slopes. How's the rail-grinding going? Still have all that snow where you are? We got some good powder here that lasted for a few days, then the wind carried most of the top snow away. Later, it got to be about 40 degrees and that took away more...still had some fun on the hills while it lasted. Later! :)

Yeah still got lots of snow in the yard but the weather has not been too kind to the quality of it, the top 2-3 inches turned into a hard crust and the 4 inches that fell the other day got melted by the sun pretty fast. I haven't had time to set anything up yet, just had some family staying at our place for 2 weeks and I now have to catch up on work (self-employed!)

Ah, that's the way the weather's been here, too. We got some crazy-good powder, then most of it drifted, then melted. That's the way it goes! Good for you about being a self-employed worker. My ranch-hand work is very part-time, at least this time of year, but I'm also a freelance artist so I totally respect your position. Hope you have some 'fun time' in there, too. Especially durring the best time of year; Winter/early Spring!! :snowboarder: Keep on shreddin'!
