Lost Trail

Lost Trail Powder Mountain is a nice family resort offering terrain that will delight any ability level. Lost Trail embodies everything that is a Montana resort. It is big, it dumps there, everyone is friendly, and they are very involved with the community.

LOCATION (-G- on our map)

Lost Trail is located off of Highway 93 (and Highway 43) on the central western Montana-Idaho border. It is super easy to get to from Missoula and a very short drive for those in the Hamilton and Wisdom areas. Since it is located just off a major highway, the road is constantly maintained (plowed and sanded).

LIFTS

Lost Trail has five chairlifts and three surface lifts (rope tows). The lifts are average speed. Like most Montana chairlifts, they do not have a safety bar. The Saddle Mountain lift is particularly long, but it takes you to great terrain. There is a get off point about 2/3rds of the way up. Not all the lifts are open every day, but there is a lot to explore even if they have just a couple of them open.

SLOPES

They have a base elevation of 6.600 ft and a top elevation of 8,200 ft.

They have 45 trails.

PARK

Lost Trail has three parks, South Central, Hi-five, and GPR Acres. Their features change but they offer a wide range of snow jumps and rails for all abilities. They are also constantly having various contests for all ages and abilities.

RESTAURANT/BAR

Lost Trail has what they call the Day Lodge and Kitchen and they do not have a bar. They do have a selection of bottled beer, including choices from local breweries. They offer

The seating at the restaurant is cafeteria style. Although there are many people that leave their stuff on the tables, they push it to the back so the table is still available for others. The tables are often full, but spots open up. I have never had to wait for a table.

They have a microwave available to use if you bring your own stuff, which is quite handy. They also have a drinking fountain often with cups next to it.

There is nice huge fire pit when you walk through the front door. There is seating all around it. They also have a heater near the water fountain where you can dry off.

"I learned to snowboard at Lost Trail. They have an excellent deal for first timers. You can get a lesson, equipment rentals, and a day lift ticket for an affordable price. The dismount for Chair 1 is very doable which can then take you to Oreo, which was the only run I would do my first couple of days up there. The mountain is well maintained so you donīt have to worry about moguls where they donīt belong! Because Lost Trail gets so much snow you will find the snow to be quite soft. This is EXTREMELY important for beginners because you spend a lot of time on your butt."

"I had one of the best powder days EVER at Lost Trail (I guess thatīs why itīs called Powder Mountain). I really like Lost Trail in general. The attitude is very Montana and the resort is large and has a lot to offer. There is a beginner park for novices like me to hit some rails, and the whole mountain is approachable. There are challenging runs, nice relaxing long groomers, and super powder stashes. The Saddle Mountain Lift is now my favorite spot up there, it can get cold on the way up, but it is worth it to make it up to the second spot to unload. Just thinking about Lost Trail makes me wonder why I am sitting here on my couch writing this review when I could be up there..."

Parks
Chris Runquist often vists Lost Trail to compete in the many competitions they hold.-
"I like Lost Trail's park. They had a good mix of features. They could use a few more street=style rails, but that's me just being biased toward street-style rails. For the jumps they could use some longer landings but the take offs were really nice. Most of the features are of really good quality."
